Red White and You
Red White and You is a piece created from Bhandari textiles from Gujarat and recycled denim. This piece represents a play on the American Flag colors of red, white, and blue- representing freedom, in a country that feels anything but free (circa August 2020, with COVID 19, travel restrictions, martial law, and undercover police raiding peaceful protestors). This piece was created to help people from India to value their own crafts, and see how beautiful Indian culture is, instead of white-washing it with fantasies of the “American Dream” which only existed for certain demographics in earlier generations.
A heavy dose of reality to ease the worried mind and spread the love, beauty, and crafts of indigenous cultures from around the world.
